Donate to the Program in Animal Behavior

The IU Program in Animal Behavior is funded by Indiana University, the National Science Foundation, and the National Institute of Health. We also rely on individual and corporate donors for support of our activities, especially those that allow us to partner effectively with the local community.

Introducing the CISAB Founders Fellowship

The Center for the Integrative Study of Animal Behavior (CISAB) Founders Fellowship supports graduate student members of the center who are pursuing a PhD and conducting research in animal behavior. The center’s mission is to promote interdisciplinary research and academic interactions between faculty members, researchers, and students who study animal behavior from diverse perspectives. Your support plays a vital role in fulfilling that mission.

Dr. Ellen Ketterson was one of the founding members of CISAB and its first co-director, a position she shared with founding member Dr. Bill Timberlake. To commemorate her January 2026 retirement and recognize her critical contributions to the program, the center has established the CISAB Founders Fellowship, which provides support to graduate student members of CISAB who are studying animal behavior.

The fellowship is open to all CISAB and Department of Biology graduate students, with a preference given to members of CISAB and Evolution, Ecology & Behavior (EEB) students.

William J. Rowland Memorial Scholarship

CISAB founding member William J. Rowland was devoted to the study of animal behavior, and a strong advocate for mentoring and training undergraduates in research, particularly undergraduates who were in one way or another disadvantaged in their opportunities to get research experience. The Bill Rowland Mentoring Award was established in Bill’s memory to recognize graduate students who have served as outstanding research mentors to undergraduates.

Alex Black Memorial Scholarship

A creative, engaged, and inspiring student, Alex Black graduated in 2018 with a B.S. degree in in Animal Behavior. During her time at IU, Alex interned in wildlife rehabilitation centers and had hoped to use her hands-on experience as well as her training in the science of animal behavior to work in rehabilitation and zookeeping. Established by Alex’s family to honor her memory, the Alex Black Memorial Scholarship helps to support Animal Behavior majors while they complete summer internships.
